Alocasia - Black Velvet
Description
Striking foliage plants with dramatic, arrow-shaped leaves. "Black Velvet"
has deep, velvety near-black leaves with silver veins.
Sun Needs
Bright, indirect light. No direct sun (it burns the leaves). Good light keeps the veining vivid.
Water Needs
Keep lightly moist; water when the top inch is dry. Dislikes both soggy soil and full dryness. Loves high humidity — dry air causes crispy edges. Often goes dormant in winter (don't panic if it drops leaves; reduce water and it returns).
Repotting Instructions
Repot every 1-2 years in spring. Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix. Prefers a snug pot; divide offsets/rhizomes to propagate.
