Polka Dot "Begonia maculata"
Description
A dramatic "angel wing" begonia with olive-green wing-shaped leaves covered in silver-white polka dots, backed by deep burgundy undersides. Tall, elegant, and Instagram-famous. Produces clusters of white flowers.
Sun Needs
Bright, indirect light. Good light keeps the spots bright and growth compact; too little makes it leggy. Avoid direct sun, which fades and scorches the leaves.
Water Needs
Water when the top inch of soil is dry, roughly weekly. Likes lightly moist (not soggy) soil and dislikes drying out fully. Water at the soil line, not over the leaves, to prevent powdery mildew. Loves humidity but keep airflow good.
Repotting Instructions
Repot every 1-2 years in spring. Use a light, well-draining mix; it likes a slightly snug pot. Cane cuttings root easily — pinch back tall canes to keep it bushy.
