Monstera - Deliciosa
Description
A bold tropical climber famous for its large, glossy leaves that develop natural splits and holes (fenestrations) as they mature. Monstera deliciosa grows big and architectural; the "Swiss Cheese" Monstera adansonii stays smaller with more delicate, fully-enclosed holes. Both are fast, forgiving, and dramatic statement plants.
Sun Needs
Bright, indirect light. Tolerates medium light but grows slower and splits less. Avoid harsh direct sun, which scorches the leaves.
Water Needs
Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry, roughly weekly. Let it dry slightly between waterings; soggy soil causes root rot. Enjoys higher humidity.
Repotting Instructions
Repot every 1-2 years in spring, moving up one pot size. Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix (potting soil + orchid bark + perlite). Provide a moss pole or trellis to support climbing and encourage larger, more fenestrated leaves.
